Club results from weekend of 11-12 March.   13/03/2017

Craughwell United’s U14 boys lost by a late goal in a 3-2 home defeat to Bearna Na Forbacha last Saturday afternoon at Coleman Park. Liam Mulveen and Sam Maduka were on target for United. Also on Saturday, Craughwell players Laura Cunningham and Shauna Tobin were on the Galway U18 Interleague squad that made the long trip to play the Inishowen League in Buncrana. Both girls made second half appearances, helping Galway to a 5-2 win which sets up a home semi-final clash against Cork in the coming weeks.

On Sunday, the U18 boys lost 5-1 away to Athenry with Alan Callanan scoring the consolation from the penalty spot. The U18 girls had a tremendous battle with Corrib Celtic at Coleman Park before losing by the only goal of the game. Craughwell were unlucky not to score from several chances, particularly a late effort from striker Mia Joyce which hit the crossbar while Ruth Tansey, Beth Sullivan, Ailbhe Martyn and Amy Dolan all shone for United on the day.

Earlier on Sunday, the 12B girls (pictured) had an excellent 5-2 victory over Oughterard. The foundations for the win were laid by United keeper Ellie Brennan who gave another excellent display, along with full back Mariah Donoghue who organised a solid defensive unit. Aisling Whyte gave the home side the lead when she rifled home a free kick from twenty yards, and she and Nicole Clarke were on target again to make it 3-0 at the interval following some smart passing play by midfielders Tara Morgan, Chloe Hallinan and Abaigh Molloy. Two more goals were added by Whyte in the second half and it could have been more as a Sorcha Murphy volley was unlucky not to find the corner of the net. Oughterard did respond well with two late goals, but Craughwell had done enough to hold out.
