Club results from weekend of 18-19 March   21/03/2017

With few league games organised due to St. Patrick’s weekend, it was left to our U12 girls to fly the flag for the club. The U12 Navy team drew 2-2 at home to Knocknacarra while the U12 Blue team were 2-0 winners away to Athenry B. The game was played in tricky conditions and with a strong wind at their backs in the opening half, Aisling Whyte fired home from fifteen yards after she was put clean through by a Fiona Waters throw-in. Moments later, Whyte bagged her second following some great work by Erin Doyle and Aoibhe Farragher. Craughwell were unlucky not to add further goals before the interval as Tara Morgan and Rebecca Cloonan efforts went close. Facing the elements in the second half, Katie Slevin and Grace Cunningham performed solidly at the back, which ensured Wendy Whiriskey and Abaigh Molloy were able to get a foothold in midfield. Nicole Clarke and Aisling Whyte went close with a couple of chances but were denied by some good Athenry defending.

The U18 Galway girls were defeated 4-1 by Cork at Eamon Deacy Park last Sunday afternoon in their Interleague semi-final clash. Craughwell’s Laura Cunningham, Shauna Tobin and Sarah Phillips all made second half appearances and while they performed with credit, they could do nothing to stop Cork from sealing their place in the final.

Further afield, the U18 boys (pictured) completed a very successful three day training camp at the Salou Academy in Spain over St. Patrick’s weekend. On Saturday morning, they played a Salou Academy team in a thrilling 4-4 draw with goals from Diarmaid McCartin, Alan Callanan and two from Eoin Fahy. That was followed on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning by training sessions with an UEFA licenced academy coach. A big word of thanks to coaches Ger Fahy, Declan Burke and co-ordinator Bill Doran for organising the trip. The team will always remember the experience fondly.
