Club results from weekend of 8-9 April.   11/04/2017

The U12C boys (pictured) retained their ten game unbeaten league run with a 6-2 away win over Corofin United B last Saturday. Craughwell keeper Cormac Tuohy put in an impressive performance helped by well drilled defending from Cormac Regan, Rian Comer, Adam Jordan, Eoghan Tierney and Cathal Plower. After a slow start from the away side, Conor Gilligan soon began to impose himself in midfield while wingers Jamie Collins and Alan Zimmerer began to stretch the Corofin defence. The Craughwell goals came from Evan Moran, Alan Zimmerer, Jamie Collins, Conor Gilligan and two from Shane Murray, one of which was an outstanding overhead volley. This win sets up a league title decider against Mervue United C in the coming weeks. Team coach Karl Zimmerer is rightly proud of the squad effort over course of the season so far.

On Sunday, the U18 girls were 3-1 winners away to Moyne Villa. The home side took an early lead before Laura Cunningham scored with a stunning thirty yard strike to equalise before the break. United began to dominate into the second half and were rewarded with the menacing Ailvhe Martyn scoring from the edge of the box with a fine shot before Cunningham scored the third and final goal from a direct free kick. Best for Craughwell on the day were Beth Sullivan and Amber Whelton.

Also on Sunday, the Craughwell U12B girls played their final league match against Oranmore Maree FC. Although the game finished in a nill all draw, it proved to an exciting match with end to end action. The result meant that Craughwell finished in the top half of the U12 Division 1 table, which was a significant achievement as all bar two of the girls on the panel of eighteen are underage next year.The whole squad gave an excellent attendance at training and matches all year, and their football ability has come on greatly over the season. It will not be a surprise if this group improves on its position or challenges for the league again next year so WATCH THIS SPACE.

Elsewhere, the U10 girls played in a Corrib Rangers hosted blitz with Molly Gilligan the leading Craughwell scorer among other notable performances from Katie Murray, Amelie and Keely Grogan while the U14 girls lost 6-2 away to Kiltullagh.
