Club results from weekend of 21/22 October   23/10/2017

After the Saturday washout, normal service resumed on a busy Sunday with four home matches at Coleman Park. The junior men’s side recorded their fourth successive league win with a 3-1 defeat of St Bernards B. Right back Adam Lawlor-Smalle opened the scoring for United on eight minutes when tapping home a Conor Lally rebound. Jack Lally then set up Louis Gray with a lovely through ball on thirty eight minutes to leave the home side two up at the break. Craughwell continued to dominate after the restart when Conor Lally set up Gray for his second goal of the day and United’s third. St Bernards responded with a goal of their own and while the away side kept trying for another, the game ended in a Craughwell win which puts them back in the promotion mix

Also on Sunday morning, the U14 girls were defeated 3-1 at home to Bearna Na Forbacha with Lucy Duggan on target for United. The U18 boys lost 2-0 to Merlin Woods FC but the U18 girls fared better with a thrilling 4-4 draw with Kilshanvey United. The away side took an early lead which they held until half time. Neither side created many clear opportunities in that opening half but the game was completely transformed after the break. Striker Amy Dolan levelled matters before Kilshanvey regained the lead at 2-1. Then Aoife Raftery was taken down in the box and scored the spot kick herself. Shortly after Raftery scored again with a fine header from a Laura Cunningham corner. Almost immediately though, Craughwell were left shell shocked when Kilshanvey scored two goals in two minutes to take a 4-3 lead with only minutes remaining. However, Tara Farrell was the home hero when she scored the equaliser with the last kick of the game. A great advert for girl’s soccer and a fair result for both teams.
