Club results from weekend of 16-17 February   18/02/2019

The U12B girls were the star performers last Sunday when they edged out Maree/Oranmore FC 4-3 on penalties in their Division 1 Cup Final at Eamonn Deacy Park. Both sides worked hard in both normal time and extra time but couldn’t find the important winning goal. Penalty shootouts are pressure situations, particularly for onlooking United coaches Liam Walsh and Martina Morgan but Katelyn Walsh, Sophie O Callaghan, Lillian Walsh and Chloe Keane found the composure to score the four winning penalties. Well done to all the girls for a very entertaining match and special mention also to Katie Murray who has recently been selected for the Galway FA U12 girl’s squad. Sunday was also a special day for our U13 players  Alan Zimmerer, Jamie Collins and Cormac Regan (pictured) who are the first club players to sign for the new Galway United U13 National League squad. They now leave the club to commence training with Galway United for the national league regional divisions which begin in March. We wish the boys all the best on their exciting journey.

Also on Sunday the U16 boys had a comprehensive 7-2 win over MacDara in Carraroe to maintain second place in the Division 1 League table. Conor Hynes score four goals while Ross Whelton, Lewis Ryan and an own goal by the home side completed the scoring.

On Saturday, the junior men’s side lost 1-0 at home to league leaders NUIG. The college side started much brighter and were full value for their slender half time lead even though United striker Alan Callanan missed a fine opportunity to sneak the leveller just before the break. Craughwell restarted with much more intensity and their pressure yielded several close range free kicks which ultimately went a-begging. Mark Cunningham then hit the post from a long range delivery but the city side held on for the crucial three points.

The U14 boys were 6-1 winners away to Salthill Devon B with goals from Daire Crowe, Jamie Lyons, Liam Plower and a hatrick from man of the match Roan Budge. The three points maintain Craughwell’s slender lead at the top of Division One. The U14B boys were defeated 5-0 away to Corrib Rangers but the U12B and U12C boys’ teams both advanced with cup wins over Kiltullagh B and Galway Bohs respectively. Ewan Walsh netted a hatrick for Gary Ward’s U12B boys with further goals coming from Mark Cormican and Harry Lynam.
