Craughwell United Notes 18/19 February   07/03/2023

Craughwell United Juniors suffered a 4-0 defeat to table-toppers Loughrea at Coleman Park on Sunday morning. United had plenty of possession and dominated the game at times but were unable to make it count on the scoreboard. Next up will be the visit of Colemanstown United on Sunday.

The U18 Boys had two great wins last week. On Wednesday night they travelled to Moyne Villa where they came out 5-1 winners with 5 different scorers - Calum Brady, Ethan O'Brien, Raphael Hardy, Ian Ward and Liam Plower. On Sunday morning they again won away from home; this time at Corrib Rangers where Liam Plower and Alex Duggan each registered a hat-trick.

Craughwell United U12 Boys Maroon were on the road for a Connacht Shield tie in Corofin. United had the lion's share of possession and broke the deadlock after 15 minutes - Edward Donoghue converting a 1v1 chance against the Corofin 'keeper. Corofin restored parity before the interval but Craughwell continued to dominate proceedings after the break. A ball over the top from Brian O'Gara set Ethan Beattie away and he hit the back of the net with a deft lob. Craughwell saw the tie out at 2-1 and progress to the next round.

Meanwhile, the U12 Boys Navy side posted a 6-0 away win against Athenry. United led at halftime, Jack Melia slotting away just before the whistle. Jack Melia's tail was now up, scoring the next two goals and sealing his hat-trick early. Zack Wholihan also had an impressive game, scoring two well-taken goals and Liam Ward rounded matters off with a well taken strike. Defensively Darragh Woods and Eanna Tormey kept Athenry at bay, Thomas Glennon pulled the strings in midfield and Cathal Osborne along with Zack Wholihan and Jack Melia were to the fore up front. A great team performance from the Craughwell Boys.

Craughwell United are running a Last Man Standing competition starting on 3 March with a €1000 prize pot. Entry is €10 and can be done at craughwellunitedfc.com
