Club results from weekend of 2-3 May   04/05/2015

The Connacht Shield Finals were held in Strandhill, Sligo last weekend and two club teams travelled up hoping that their recent great form would continue. The U12 boys started their final very slowly against Kilshanvey United and found themselves 3-0 down at half time. Manager Aubrey Mulveen got the boys refocussed during the break, none more so than his own son Liam who went on to score a second half hatrick, levelling the match 3-3 at the end of normal time. Despite several chances Craughwell could not find the winner in extra time and to their credit, Kilshanvey kept their composure better to win the penalty shootout and take the title. Thomas Pierce and Jack Regan were outstanding all day in the Craughwell defence.

The U18 boys started better in their final against Athenry when Gavin O Toole gave United an early lead. Athenry caught Craughwell cold just before the break, when a quickly taken free kick was headed in unchallenged at the back post. The second half was evenly balanced and looked to be heading towards extra time until United striker Dara Cunney scored late on to clinch the Connacht title for Craughwell. United's back four of Eric Callanan, Andrew Greaney, Connor Dolan and Sean Garman were excellent when put under pressure from Athenry.

The U14 boys finished their season with a 4-4 draw at home to West Coast United. Joseph Jackson, Vincent Boyle and Evan Kelly (2) got the goals in what was manager Willie O Connor's final game in charge.

The U13 boys had an excellent 8-2 win in their Premier league match away to Cregmore/Claregalway FC with Sean Connaughton scoring six goals along with Kevin Molloy and Alex Evans also on the scoresheet. The U18B boys continued their recent winning run with a 5-2 home win over Cregmore/Claregalway FC.

The  U14 girls finished their league programme with a 6-1 win over local rivals Athenry. United keeper Siobhan Creaven gave a great display making some smart saves especially in the second half when Athenry upped their game.  Tara Farrell, Sarah Woods and Jane Trehy all scored two each in a game that was keenly contested but not reflected in the final scoreline. The U18 girls were up against formidable opponents in Salthill Devon and even in losing 4-0, they never dropped their heads and battled hard as they have all season.
